Road Safety as an important aspect of transport sector. There is a pressing need to sensitize among
masses with the various aspects of road safety tips and its benefits. Every year thousands of people met
causalities and equal no of people get permanent disabilities in road accidents. In India alone more than
1.5 lakhs people die in road accidents and more than 5 lakhs people get permanent disabilities and more
than a million people received minor injuries. Among all these victims the shocking things to note is that
majority of victims are of young age between 20 to 30 years. ASRTU has been entrusted by MoRT&H for
organizing the interactive workshops, seminars and road safety awareness programs throughout Indian
states & UTs to sensitize the importance of road safety and basic know how among masses so that
precious human lives can be saved.
Skill Development of Drivers and Mechanical Staff in Road Transport Sector
Skill Development is an integral part to determine efficiency of operations of member STUs. Ministry of
RT&H, GOI has introduced a scheme for training, retraining of bus drivers and mechanical staff to improve
operations efficiency and reduce breakdown and road accidents. Apart from training employees of member
create a provision to train quality driving and basic mechanical training to common people desirous to learn these skills. ASRTU has also been a nodal agency tor facilitating member SRTUs as per the laid down
norms so that there should not be adequate no of availability of skilled commercial drivers
Accessible India Campaign
Use of public transport by masses has been a top priority of any government. There is need to make public
transport and its related infrastructure has to be user friendly so that people prefer public transport over
their private transport. Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORT&H) is the nodal agency for
Government of India in providing easy access to People with Disability in Public Transport Buses, Bus
Stops, Bus Terminals, Departmental Building etc. The target set by MORT&H is 25%. The percentage of
accessibility is 35.02% for buses and 88% for bus terminal/depots. The Monthly status submitted regularly
to MORT&H. The status is also monitored by PMO
